Baton Rouge, LA – Last week, Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury and the City of Winnfield were each awarded funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A). The SS4A grant program provides grants to local, regional, and Tribal communities for implementation, planning, and demonstration activities as part of a systematic approach to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways. This roadway safety program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and provides $5 billion over five years. The funding helps communities address the preventable crisis of deaths on our nation’s roads, streets, and highways through safer people, roads, and vehicles; appropriate vehicle speeds; and improved post-crash care.

Jefferson Davis Parish was awarded $400,000 to develop a comprehensive safety action plan for Elton, Fenton, Jennings, Welsh, and Lake Arthur, and Winnfield was awarded $80,000 to enhance safe streets and reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Through the Technical Assistance Program (TAP), the Louisiana Infrastructure Technical Assistance Corporation (LITACorp) assisted Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury and the City of Winnfield with identifying the SS4A funding opportunity and collaborated with local leaders to develop and submit competitive grant applications.

“Transportation infrastructure improvements are a major priority for many local governments throughout Louisiana,” said Leslie Durham, Executive Director of LITACorp. “But before we reconstruct our roadways, we need to understand our challenges and identify appropriate next steps. These SS4A grants will help Jefferson Davis Parish and Winnfield do just that through strategic planning and safety assessments. As always, we are grateful to have the continued support of Governor Jeff Landry, the Louisiana State Legislature, Office of Rural Development, Police Jury Association of Louisiana and Louisiana Municipal Association, and we are excited to keep our winning streak going and improve our grant success rate for the benefit of Louisiana communities.”

Since July 2023, LITACorp has submitted 32 grant applications to pursue more than $233 million in funding for Louisiana communities under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). To date, LITACorp has assisted 11 communities in securing more than $12.6 million in IIJA grant funding, and for every dollar the state has invested in LITACorp, $3.72 has been reinvested back into the state through federal grant funding.

Louisiana communities interested in receiving technical assistance can submit a Letter of Interest to LITACorp at www.LITACorp.org.
